SHEFFIELD ARROWS RETURN TO THEIR ROOTS WITH OFFICIAL NAME CHANGE AHEAD OF 2025/26 SEASON

The Arrows are coming home.

After more than a decade competing under the name Derbyshire Arrows, the club is proud to announce its official return to Sheffield—reinstating the historic name Sheffield Arrows for the 2025/26 National Basketball League season.

This move brings the club full circle, back to the city where it all began.

Founded out of Abbeydale Grange School, the Arrows launched their junior programme in 1991, followed by the establishment of their men’s programme in 1997. The club proudly carried the Sheffield Arrows name until 2011, building a reputation for player development, community focus, and competitive basketball.

Now, thanks to a landmark partnership with The Sheffield College, the Arrows will once again be based in the Steel City—playing home games at the Hillsborough Campus from this season onward.

“This is more than a name change—it’s a return to who we are,” said Jonny Kelly, Club Director and Head Coach. “Our roots are in Sheffield. It’s where we were founded, where we developed generations of players, and where we’ve always intended to come back to. This move allows us to build stronger community ties, create education pathways through sport, and give our players a true home.”

The agreement with The Sheffield College will offer training facilities, new educational and basketball development pathways for student-athletes, and a permanent home base for the club to grow both on and off the court.

From 2011–2025, the Arrows competed as Derbyshire Arrows, based at Killamarsh Sports Centre. The club achieved success throughout that time, but the ambition to return to Sheffield never faded.

“We’re stepping into a new era with the same values—hard work, opportunity, and pride in where we’re from,” Kelly added. “We want to make Sheffield proud again.”

The club will unveil updated branding and team kits later this summer, alongside season ticket information and the full fixture schedule for 2025/26.
